We flew from New Zealand to Australia in hopes of meeting Taylor Swift and WE DID IT! :)
My four friends and I are HUGE Taylor Swift fans and run a Facebook page called "NZ Taylor Swift Fans", and so when we heard she was going to be in Sydney, Australia for the ARIA Awards we immediately thought up a plan to fly over in the hopes of meeting her. We bought tickets to the awards show so we were guaranteed to see her, but that wasn't enough for us. Every day we were over there we worked out exactly where she was, but were not able to meet her until our very last chance paid off. Here's our story.
On the day we landed in Sydney we managed to hear Taylor sound-checking "I Knew You Were Trouble" for the awards show, and we met a few of her band members and talked to her manager. We told all of them that we had flown over from New Zealand and they were all very impressed, but while we were talking to them Taylor was driven away.
On the second day we sat by the red/black carpet of the awards show ALL day so we had a position right on the bar when Taylor came by. We got interviewed by a radio station for being such dedicated fans, and met a lot of celebrities that walked the carpet, but when Taylor came by everyone went crazy! She signed a girls poster who was right next to us, but security pushed her away and we watched her walk right past us.. We went in to the arena, and it was amazing because at the beginning Taylor was sitting and watching the awards and dancing the opening act. She later came on to perform "I Knew You Were Trouble" which was amazing and flawless. Near the end of the show we ran out to the back of the arena in hopes of meeting her. We talked to her manager again who actually remembered us from the day before! Taylor came out soon after and stopped to wave at all of us fans who were there waiting for her. But once again, we did not manage to meet her.
On the third day Taylor was going to be flying out of Australia so we went to the airport early in the morning in hopes of our dreams coming true at this very last chance we had. After about six hours a bunch of black cars, that matched the ones her crew had been driving around in, began turning up. First came Taylor's manager who, once again, remembered us and he took a photo of our photo collage that we had made for Taylor, which had photos we collected, through our fan page, of her New Zealand fans doing hand hearts. We hadn't been able to give it to Taylor and so he said that he would show her the photo of it :) A while after, her band arrived and we met, chatted to, and had photos with all of them and gave them soft toy kiwis so they knew that we had flown all that way :) All of a sudden police and paparazzi appeared and we knew exactly what was about to happen. TAYLOR'S CAR ARRIVED! :D We stood together, semi calm, and when Taylor stepped out of her car everything went crazy! Everyone was running everywhere and paparazzi's cameras were flashing constantly. And despite all the craziness, we did it. Four of the five of us managed to get photos with Taylor and talk to her! :D Two of us also told Taylor that we had flown all the way from New Zealand just to see her and she was genuinely impressed and stopped to hold our hands and thank us :) She is honestly so kind and beautiful and meeting her was unbelievable!
We had all been trying to meet Taylor for so long and we were, and still are, absolutely astounded, excited, happy and feel so lucky by how perfect our trip went. Meeting Taylor Swift means so much to us, as not only does she inspire all of us, but she is who brought us all together.
