Taylor Swift

This is, oh well, supposed to be an older post. Anyway,

This is my reaction after seeing so many negative comments on them on YouTube, after the State of Grace performance on X Factor USA a few days back.

That performance was sublime. But for me it was kind of ruined after seeing the comments. I can’t stop reading those although they hurt…

Let me offer my own thoughts and opinion.

To put it in few words, the amazing talented Liz Huett left the Agency to pursue her solo career, and four new back-up singers were chosen to replace her: Carly, Clare, Kamilah and Melanie.

I was pretty mixed back then. Sad because Liz left; after all she had been with Taylor for so long and they had shared a good deal of memories. And we love her so much. Happy because someone had stepped up to fill her place. Not one actually, four of them. And curious to see how well they’ll perform, how well they’ll perform with Taylor, and how well they’ll fit in to the rest of the Agency.

First off I’m impressed with the choreography they did. And how well they dance together with Taylor in performing songs like WANEGBT or You Belong With Me. How well they perform with Taylor, checked.

I’m also impressed with how fast they learn to back-up Taylor’s vocals, supposed to be their main job. Perfect example: the reh-eh-eh-ed in Red. Hearing them (together with Caitlin I supposed) do that just make me smile. It’s just too awesome for words. And well to highlight their quick learning ability, I would take older songs like YBWM, Love Story and Mean for example. They did a wonderful job. The harmony between our performers is exceptional. How well they perform, checked.

Only thing left is how well they fit in to the rest of the Agency. It’s hard to evaluate though, since interaction like this is off-the-record. But the two tweeters out of the four, Kamilah and Melanie, seem to get along well with each other. Well Twitter is not a definite definition of friendship and I don’t know much about Carly and Clare… Unchecked.

After all, I think they did a good job.

But somehow they have been the talk of the Swifties ever since. For a multitude of reasons. I don’t know all the Swifties out there and I don’t want to embarrass myself so I’m not going to put down any. Feel free to put in /submit if you like. :)

And now about the State of Grace performance. I was perplexed when I saw the hateful comments… I thought they did a splendid job! They covered well for Taylor who was obviously not in her best state of health. The oh-ohs were another perfect back-up vocal performance. Only Melanie (and probably Kamilah) did the normal verses. They gave a bit too much to the perf though, but it was still fine… I just don’t understand :(

I just want to say that they have tried their best to compliment Taylor. They will be a force to watch on the tour!

The right thing to do is not to bash them, but to cheer them on. They are new anyway. And the expectation is high, given the comparison to Liz. We should not put any extra pressure on them should we? With time, I believe they would be able to please everyone!

I’m already impressed, and I will to continue to support them, no matter what. Carly, Clare, Kamilah, Melanie, if you read this, you know that some random one out there loves what you are doing!

…well this is getting a bit too long. Originally planned just to include the State of Grace section… Anyway, I PROUDLY SUPPORT THE AWESOME TAYLOR SWIFT BACK-UP SINGERS. And I would love if you do it too.
