    "Dear John" sound like raw emotion directed at someone from the past in another place: "The Last Time" seems both parties are present for the exchange--both songs real and genuine, "Last Time" seems a little "safer"

    It is very hard to choose since I love both of the songs, I can't compare it because The Last Time featured Gary Lightbody while Dear John is a solo song more like a letter to John (it's obvious who's John is it :D). The Last Time story might be the same with The Other Side Of The Door, so it will be fairer, for me, if you compared TLT and TOSoTD instead
