This song has no specific person, that it's written for. It's just about saying goodbye in general.
To me, saying goodbye is the worst feeling ever and I always cry like an idiot.
I think this song is also inspired by the situation in "Here's your reason" by me and "The man who can't be moved" by The Script (You should know that it was my favourite non-Taylor song when I wrote it.)
The lyrics just came over me, and I wrote them down in about 20 minutes...
