A Help Page

Tue, Aug 21, 2012 at 2:15 PM

I'm surprised that this hasn't been instituted yet... I know I'm not the first to suggest it -- we need a page we can go to for help if things here on the website aren't working the way they should, one that suggests ways to fix it BEYOND simply "oh, get another browser" because that isn't always an option for people. Right now that bar or whatever you call it to access the drop-down menu that people can't decide what color it is... doesn't even show on my screen and hasn't for about a week now. When it does, and I click on it, the menu drops down but I can only see the last two letters of one of the options on it, no matter how i try resizing my screen, and i can only scroll so far to the sides (which doesn't ever reach all the way on either side). How do I get rid of the twitter thing at the bottom of the page? That gets in the way quite a bit and in fact is blocking me from being able to see the line I'm typing right now. Then there's still the red news flash bar from what, four months ago? People said there was a way to close that, but no one ever said where. All these things are things that I would ask on a help page... If there were one, that is... so, again, a help page, guys? Please?

Well all updated browsers should render html to produce pages that look the same. If things are not displaying as intended, then it's likely that either the browser you are using isn't current/updated, is damaged and needs repair/reinstallation, or that your security settings or administrator has blocked functions that prevent the page from being displayed as intended. This is the point of having coding standards - browsers implement things differently, but they should all produce a page that looks and functions the same.

There is nothing you can do to remove elements of a page on a permanent basis - they've been coded in by the designer. Suggestions to remove it can be made here, but don't expect anything fast, or that they will even be accepted. If you are in firefox and want to remove an element from being displayed for just one instance you can right click on the section and go to "inspect element", you can then "delete node" and the section of the page won't be displayed for ONLY this one page view. Other than that you'd have to do some heavy coding for a custom add-on or something like that.
